SFSR runs two diesel-electric engines, the 93 and 92, both early 50s GP (General Purpose) models built by GM's Electromotive Division. The 93 has 1600 horsepower, the 92 1500 HP, these are but two examples of the thousands of this type of engine which continue to provide daily service around the country. Cab rides are available on a limited basis--just ask! |
The 1158 comes to us from the Central Railroad of New Jersey. Built in 1922 by the Bethlehem Shipbuilding Company in Delaware, the 1158 is an elegant piece of history, apportioned with green velvet "walk-over" seats and mahogany paneling. This coach has been restored very much to its original state of comfortable, if not posh, commuter elegance. |
This 40-foot flat car is one of our most popular attractions. Folks brave all sorts of weather out on deck, and many riders feel compelled to plant themselves on it when the train goes through intersections. There is something mighty fun about waving to all those stopped cars! |
One of only six dome/ lounge cars built for the AT&SF Super Chief that operated between Los Angeles and Chicago, this moving streamline museum is our rarest train car. Her 1950 birthdate makes her an antique, and some days she can be a little quirky. Still, her 16 Dome seats provide one of the best manmade views in New Mexico, affording 360-degree views of the wide open expanses of this high desert region. |
This caboose, built in 1946 and used on the AT&SF, was a livestock service caboose, equipped with a small work desk, toilet, stove, and seats for the wranglers who would accompany the animals to load and unload them and to periodically provide them water. The caboose holds 16 riders. |

| Vintage 1920's passenger coach from the (now closed) Kettle Moraine Railway in Wisconsin. This car features an open baggage area at one end which can serve as a platform for a small band and dance area, or provide an ample space for a party/catering set up. | Vintage 1920's passenger coach. Hi-backed seats make this a comfortable car to ride in. Much of the interior has been restored to its former condition, and restoration efforts continue with plans for a new floor and new coat of exterior paint. | ||||
